Take a look at the following steps to ensure you are keeping your grease traps in top shape.

The first thing you should do is gently remove the lid from the grease trap. You may need a pry bar to do this, but there is one important thing to remember: do this carefully so you don’t accidentally damage any of the parts inside. It can be easy to damage your grease trap during this step, costing you a lot of money down the road. Next, spend some time examining the trap inside to get an idea of where the parts are located. After you have a good idea of its layout, you can insert a measuring stick to identify how much grease and debris is trapped inside.

Before cleaning out any of the debris, you should pour any water in the grease trap into a bucket or some other type of container. Next, you will want to remove any of the waste inside, placing it into an airtight container. After the grease trap is empty, you can clean the sides and the lid, removing any waste that was left behind.
